Loss of momentum

It’s been a hectic week, considering its only Tuesday. I have been extremely busy with work since these few days and last week. I will still be busy this week.

Apart from that, the stupid ADSL modem has been giving me headache with the frequent drop of connection to the internet. This has been a problem here in the office ever since the office got flooded during Raya time last year. All the equipments were in bad shape but thank god the server was saved. But the old modem and router suffered the most and now unusable.

We got ourselves a new router and modem. That was when the internet connection became unstable and we kept getting a drop connection once every 2-3 hours. I know I have to do something to prevent this from happening as most of the office work requires the internet. The content department especially must be online all the time for their research.

I finally found the solution….yesterday.

I Googled up for help regarding dropped connection using the Linksys WRT54GL router. I found out that there have been problems similar to ours. All I need to do is upgrade the routers’ firmware to an open sourced linux based firmware called Tomato Firmware. Good thing it’s not a rotten tomato. After searching for a solution, Tomato firmware really does the job well. Well….not that good yet. After upgrading the routers’ firmware into using Tomato, we experience less drop of connections. Unlike previously once every 2-3 hours. This time it lasts more than 6 hours without a single drop. That is good enough for us to keep connected for the whole day. My guess is that the linksys router we are currently using is not that compatible with our networking system, which is on the high-end side. I forgot what it’s called.

My HoD said that the router will become unstable after long hours of usage. At least the Tomato firmware helped abit in maintaining a good connection for longer hours. I know that it is not enough but I’m quite thankful for the great firmware. At least until we got ourselves a new high-end high performance router.

Differences Between Butter And Margarine

Just something for you to know.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW…the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end…gets very interesting! Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine. Very high in Trans fatty acids. Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol). Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.

And here’s the most disturbing fact…. HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC. This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.

Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

*no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

*it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Making Money from the Internet

I’m sure many of you already know how to make money using the internet. There are many ways on doing this. The current popular method is the online advertising.

In Malaysia, the method using the online advertising is gaining its popularity through a few direct local ads and revenue providers such as Nuffnang and Advertlets. These companies targets frequent internet users such as bloggers as their main target audience and at the same time these bloggers become their “promoters” too.

Upon registration, the bloggers or those who seeks revenue through online advertising will be given a few choice for online banners to be placed in their respective websites. The advertisers will then track the clicks through and page impressions for each banners. This is how the bloggers or “promoters” will gain their revenue. It’s not much. But it is a good side income for some.

And for those who receives hundreds or thousands of visitors per day, can earn more. A good example would be Kenny Sia, who receives more than 1000 hits per day on average. Its no wonder he is making lots of money through online advertising.

Other providers with similar concept are Google Adsense and AdBrite. Those are the popular ones that I can remember. Those are also based on click through and page impressions.

However your advertising methods are, they worked. As you can see here in my site, I have Nuffnang and AdSense.

But, I also have found another way of making revenue the easy and simple way. The website is called Bux.to (bux = bucks, slang for money).

The method is different. I have to log in to the website to surf their ads. But each ads only needs one click and I would have to wait 30 seconds for it to be considered as “viewed”. It’s legit. No such scam or whatsoever. Just click on the ads and make money within 30 seconds. I like it simply because I can see my $$$ growing with each click. You can learn more about it here.

All I can say now is that, everyone can easily make money online. It depends on how your approach towards getting that extra something. Getting 100 or 200 ringgit a month is a good side income. Money is money no matter how much or little it is right? Well, I’m happy now that I can gain some side income just by surfing the net.

How cool is that?
