Loss of momentum
Apart from that, the stupid ADSL modem has been giving me headache with the frequent drop of connection to the internet. This has been a problem here in the office ever since the office got flooded during Raya time last year. All the equipments were in bad shape but thank god the server was saved. But the old modem and router suffered the most and now unusable.
We got ourselves a new router and modem. That was when the internet connection became unstable and we kept getting a drop connection once every 2-3 hours. I know I have to do something to prevent this from happening as most of the office work requires the internet. The content department especially must be online all the time for their research.
I finally found the solution….yesterday.
I Googled up for help regarding dropped connection using the Linksys WRT54GL router. I found out that there have been problems similar to ours. All I need to do is upgrade the routers’ firmware to an open sourced linux based firmware called Tomato Firmware. Good thing it’s not a rotten tomato. After searching for a solution, Tomato firmware really does the job well. Well….not that good yet. After upgrading the routers’ firmware into using Tomato, we experience less drop of connections. Unlike previously once every 2-3 hours. This time it lasts more than 6 hours without a single drop. That is good enough for us to keep connected for the whole day. My guess is that the linksys router we are currently using is not that compatible with our networking system, which is on the high-end side. I forgot what it’s called.
My HoD said that the router will become unstable after long hours of usage. At least the Tomato firmware helped abit in maintaining a good connection for longer hours. I know that it is not enough but I’m quite thankful for the great firmware. At least until we got ourselves a new high-end high performance router.
