Bali Style in Bumbu Bali

I never gonna forget the food there. Really. And I got one word for the food there, AWESOME!

Oh, and not forgetting the HUGE portions as well.

A friend of Geena, Purdey and her sis Lyna came for a visit from Sarawak last weekend and we went to a nice Balinese style restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong. I’m sure this place is already well known for its reputation as one of the best Balinese style dishes. But I’m gonna blog about it anyway.

BumbuBali (1)

It was my first time dining there, and no objection for the choice of restaurant there. The ambiance was exactly how I imagined, Balinese style (duh). I’ve always been a fan of Balinese home decor, so I felt comfortable as soon as I stepped in the restaurant.

BumbuBali (4)

The restaurant is not only for dining, but they also sell some of the Bali style home decor as well.

But it’s not the decor I’m excited about, it’s the food. The food there is worth every penny. Why? Becoz of its HUGE portions. One person cannot finish a single dish alone. So I knew I had to share with Geena. So did Purdey and her sis Lyna. Well, actually, I can finish the dish alone but I’m trying to jaga badan la. (yeah, right). But even when I shared it with Geena, I was totally stuffed after that. Like I said, worth every penny.

BumbuBali (6)
Nasi Campur Bali. Consists of grilled squids, grilled prawns, beef rendang, grilled fish, grilled meat on lemon-grass sticks, kangkong belacan and some fruits and other vege. The portion may look small here in the picture, but trust me, the “plate” was huge.

BumbuBali (7)
Tiga Rasa (I think. What is this called again, Dee?). Basically its a combination of three things, fried squid, grilled chicken wings with belacan and grilled meat on lemon-grass sticks. Totally awesome.

BumbuBali (8)
All three dishes in total. I forgot what Purdey and Lyna ordered. But it has petai with squids in it. Nice.

BumbuBali (9)
To wash it down, a nice glass of “Es Campur” as a dessert right after that. This is really good.

BumbuBali (10)
Geena obviously enjoyed the Es Campur, I did too.

Although the price of each dishes, say, the nasi campur is around RM25–ish bucks, I really don’t mind paying that much for the awesome dish. To me, it’s the quality that matters. But in this case, I’m happy with the quantity as well coz the portion is very huge and generous.

If you’re thinking of getting your stomach filled up to the max and forget about your diet, Bumbu Bali is definitely the place. I can’t remember when was the last time I indulge on such a huge and awesome meal. Oh wait, had that during my Korean BBQ dinner. Heh heh. But Bumbu Bali is now on my top 5 places to eat.

Korean BBQ Again

Update: Seoul Bulgogi Restaurant is now known as Seoul Gardens Restaurant.

Whenever I have something nice to eat as a celebration, I would choose the Seoul Bulgogi Korean BBQ restaurant. This time it was a celebration for Max, a friend from Italy who recently found a new job in Malaysia (finally), in Kota Kinabalu to be exact. He wants to be closer to the love of his life, Rieta, as possible. Being in Italy is too damn far from each other. Good thing he found something good in KK.

For a treat, we brought him to my favourite eating place. It was his first time dining for a Korean BBQ and he loved it to the max. No pun intended. Well actually, we all loved it.

The food there has always been good and the choice of food laid out on the buffet line is certainly mouth watering. Being in Malaysia, the owner also placed some local food as well such as yong tau foo and rojak. Just a touch of the local taste for those who wants something familiar.

But the main attractions are obviously the meat, seafood and the chicken dishes. Good for grilling, especially the beef and lamb which I prefer medium well.

Prawns and crabs are also the main attraction there. We know that eating prawns and crabs are expensive at some places, but this is when we took the advantage to the meaning of the word “buffet”. We grab as many prawns and crabs as we can and make it all worth every penny. FYI, I grab as many beef and lamb too.

They all took too many prawns that I don’t even have a place to grill my beef and lamb. :-(

Geena obviously enjoyed her prawns, as usual. She had more than 20 prawns that night (I think). Crazy.

Rieta and Max having a good meal too. We loved the tom yam soup for the steamboat. It was rather tasty and extremely hot, as in spicy, not coz it’s boiling.

Finally I have a place for my beef and lamb after they are done with their prawns and crabs. Like I said earlier, I like it medium well. I don’t know why but it seems to be more juicy and tastier when cooked that way.

Seoul Bulgogi Korean BBQ restaurant has been my favourite place to dine ever since I first dine there a few years back. I know that there are many other similar restaurant just like it. I still remember a long time ago there was a similar restaurant called Deli-Q in Bangsar. That was actually when I started to love Korean BBQ restaurants. And now Seoul Bulgogi kinda like replaced Deli-Q’s offerings, well, for me anyway.

Food is great, price is right, and best of all it never fails to delight me every time I dine in. For RM33.88 per adult, it is considered cheap for a buffet meal, BBQ style.

Sampled Goodies

I did a review on a new cakes and cheesecakes website recently, and the owner was kind enough to send me 3 mini cheesecakes as a token of appreciation for my review. And that was one of my best “payment” ever!

Jazrul decided to treat me with 3 of his *smack* *drool* delicious cheesecakes after he read the review. So yesterday evening he gave me a call to find out my location. I was in Summit when he called me, but after knowing that he’s giving me those cheesecakes, I made a Schumacher and reached Mutiara Damansara within 20 minutes.

When I met him, he gave me a box. Inside there are 3 mini cheesecakes, Chocolate, Cappuchino and Sneakers. I went home and saved the best for last, the Sneakers.

The Mini Sneakers Cheesecake

The taste? Oh how wonderful. I finished the Chocolate Cheesecake in less than one minute, Cappuchino, longer than 2 minutes. But the Sneakers Cheesecake? Waaaay longer, coz I was savouring the taste and the moment. I don’t want it to be a short kind of excitement, know what I’m sayin’?

The after taste? Put it this way, I can still the taste the Sneakers cheesecake until now (mind you, I dah gosok gigi, and had lunch too). I can still smell the smell and taste the taste. Bottomline, awesomely deeelicious.

I never had a cheesecake that good. I thought Secret Recipe has a good cheesecake but this was out of this world. I guess the love and passion of baking these cheesecakes really played an important role in preparing these excellent dessert. That is what the people behind 4cakesinacup.com is focused on, giving your their love and passion in a form of a cheesecake.

I’m starting to adore cakes

Web development has been my forté for the past 8 years or so. And eventhough I was not working in an IT company (last 4 years), I still have web development jobs to be done.

One of my latest project in web development was for the company I’m currently working for, Enershia, and I’ve only been in this company for 6 months. I have been away from Flash for a (very) long time, and to develop a website in 100% Flash is not an easy task. Lots of re-learning to do.

Well, I’m not here today to talk about my office website. Today will be about another website that I’ve done recently. For those of you who love cakes, get your drooling pan out and enjoy.

 4cakes_screen

4cakesinacup.com is a new local site that sells cakes, cup cakes and variaties of other delicious home-cooked dishes.

While I was designing this website, I can’t help but drool over their delicious looking cakes and pastries. It was difficult to concentrate on the design when one is drooling over the pictures. But it was well worth it. I’m not going to go about telling about the design, but more about their services and offerings.

An excerpt from their website:

In 4 Cakes in a Cup, we specialize in cheesecakes and mini cheesecakes. Based in Kota Damansara, this home-business started off in 2005 and currently, 4Cakes offers at least 25 types of cheesecakes to choose from. Owner/baker, Sherina Salleh has always been a big fan of cakes and cheesecakes. What began as a hobby, she initially baked for friends and families and positive feedbacks from them has invited many requests for Sherina to bake cheesecakes for their birthday parties, celebrations, gatherings and functions. Now, 4Cakes has expanded our cheesecakes network taking full advantage of the NEW home here with many new exciting flavors and variations. Started small, we still use the free web hosts provided by one of the photo hosting sites to showcase our cheesecakes selections to the world. And with the current rapid and exciting development, our plan of having our own webpage has finally came true.

Some of the cakes that they have.

4Cakes has been around a long time. As they said, it was all done at home with passion and love of cooking. Previously they “advertised” their cakes and other products via Flickr photo gallery, where you can browse through all the cakes that they have done. Then after close to 3 years, the idea on having their own website comes to mind.

From cheese cakes, to mini cup cakes, they have it all. What’s best about their product is that all cakes are baked only after you ordered them. Which means, you will get your cake(s) hot and fresh from the oven (or fridge).

Their current service areas are in and around KL and PJ. Of course, you can have the option to pick up your cake(s) from their house in Kota Damansara or have your cake(s) delivered to your home. Alternatively, you may pay them a visit in Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) at the Market Place every Saturday and Sunday (I think the next Market Place will start in May 2008).

Did I mention that they have other dishes other than cakes? Yes, they do.

If you’re not into cakes, then try out their delicious gourmet standard dishes such as roast lamb, chicken & mushroom quiche, caserole dishes, tortillas, variaties of mushroom dishes and many more. *drool*

Ok, that’s enough. Hungry already.

Be sure to check out their website at www.4cakesinacup.com to know more or to drool over their photos. I know I did.

Spanish Night

Well, it was my first time in La Bodega.

After hearing lots about it, I finally went and give it a try. I love Spanish cooking and cuisine, so this I must try. My friends told me that they serve Tapas there. It’s worth it.

One word, deeeelicious! (especially the mushrooms with brown sauce)

Tapas is actually the type of dish, serves in small portions whereby you have to order lots of Tapas(es) dishes in order to get full. One plate of Tapas is too small for a big eater like me. So we ordered more than 10 types of Tapas plus some others to top it off.

We went to La Bodega in The Pavilion. The place was quite happening due to the high end shopping centre, The Pavilion. I think it’s the place people go to be seen. Me, I go there to indulge.

On this…

…and this…

…and this…

There’s more food photos actually. I was just too busy eating and I forgot to take photos of it. Heh heh.

Anyway, more non-food photos.

Geena and Rieta enjoying the evening.

Rieta and Angie, err..almost high.

Angie, Puvern and Me.

The drinks that got the girls high. :-P

That’s another alcoholic mix.

We did had a great time indulging on the (absolutely) delicious Tapas. I don’t mind going there again for another round of Spanish cuisine. If this goes on often, I’d gain back my lost weights. Err…better not too often then. :-P

Melaka Style in PJ

I found a nice place to find a good nyonya cuisine in PJ area. It was my first time dining in Ah Tuan Ee’s Place in The Curve, Mutiara Damansara. And I can safely say that the food is good, really good.

The setup brought me back in time, felt like I was in an old traditional nyonya place in Melaka. I like that feeling. I’ve been to Melaka a number of times and been to the old coffee shops in the historic city. I remember when I was alot younger, I was staying there in a hotel with my parents and there was an old kopitiam nearby. I went there for breakfast and I felt like I was actually reliving the old times. I can’t explain the feeling. It’s like, nostalgic.

Anyway, Ah Tuan Ee’s Place reminded me of that. Plus, the food is fantastic too.

Worth a visit.

I saw a kopitiam in Melaka that looks just like this.

Ahtuan2ee_01
Geena was excited to dine here.

Ahtuan2ee_03
The sambal sotong.

Sotong in sambal sauce, absolutely fantastic. I know we can this dish anywhere but you must remember, the style of cooking varies. This one taste authentically delicious.

Ahtuan2ee_04
Kangkong belacan. Nyonya style instead of Thai.

I’ve had kangkong belacan many times. But from this place, it’s different. Ada kick sikit.

Ahtuan2ee_02
Deep fried bean curd with mushroom something (can’t remember).

The bean curd was good. It’s crunchy but at the same time, soft, like M&M. It melts in your mouth.

I don’t mind coming back here for lunch or dinner again. The price is just about right for this kind of meal. No regrets at all. I really have to try the other dishes as well. Something uncommon for a change. We’ll get to that on my next foodblog.

Bottom line is, where there’s good food, there I’ll be. Heh heh.

Location:
Ah Tuan Ee’s Place
The Curve, Mutiara Damansara
Just above TGI Fridays along The Walk.
