Happy Holidays!!!

Well, this will be my last blog before I start on my holiday. Tomorrow is Deepavali and Raya will be two days after that. This whole week is going to be very quiet around the town areas, but havoc in Kampung areas.

So, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Hindus, a Happy Deepavali and to all Muslims, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Eid Mubarak (in Arabic).

I shall be back from my festive holidays on 7th November 2005. See you all again next week.

Last few days till Raya

Raya is just around the corner, the town areas are getting more quiet each day. People are already heading to their home town for the festive holidays. Now everyone are in the mood for Raya and Deepavali. I don’t think any Malaysian at this moment are in a mood to work anyway….except maybe for my boss who is a workaholic and don’t know what holiday means (dumb ass).

Even the Bazaar Ramadhan is getting quiet.

Even I will be heading back to my “hometown” which is not that far away in Klang. But before that I have lots of shopping to do. There goes more of my salary. Darn.

I’m buying new cloths and baju raya for my parents. I’m taking them out for shopping. I think in Klang town there’s this area selling nice baju melayu and baju kurung. Should be nice for them.

Also I need to get beef and chicken for our raya dishes. Beef rendang is a must, so is our famous roast chicken. This year we will also be serving pastas such as Spaghetti Marinara. It’s something different, especially for raya.

That reminds me, I need to buy lots of lemangs too (rice cooked in bamboo with coconut milk). I found a few good location selling really good lemangs. But the best one is located along the Karak highway from Genting to KL bound. That’s quite a distance. I’ll just get the one from Padang Jawa, Shah Alam. It’s cheap and the taste is not that bad.

Now everywhere I go, there’s lots of good raya and deepavali decorations. Shopping centers putting up their best effort to outshine the others with their creative decos.

One Utama’s DeepaRaya deco. A combination of both.

I’m sure that this is one festive season that everyone will enjoy. If only I was alot younger, so that I can get lots of angpows (chengpows?) from my relatives. But unfortunately, this time I have to give out the angpows to my younger cousins, nieces and nephews. Darn…there goes lots more of my salary.

Bad connection

The internet connection today sux big time. At the moment I have to log in to the net from my porch, unlike my usual place, the living room. I don’t know why but I think it has something to do with my homemade parabola. I think I need to redo the whole thing so that the aluminium foil could catch better signal from the living room. And the worse thing about sitting on the porch is that, it’s blazing hot outside. Phew! It’s really hot out here. Oh well…

Censored? Where?

That’s it. That’s what I noticed nowadays. Where’s the censorship for movies in cinemas nowadays? I thought the Malaysian Governments is quite harsh when it comes to 18SX movies and censorships. But I saw a few recent movies with hardly any censorship at all.

First, I saw the movie Skeleton Key starring Kate Hudson. The scene when she was taking a bath, clearly we as the audience can see the top part of her body and naked. I mean…I really don’t mind seeing this scene but I was abit shocked that the censorship board missed this part of the scene. Do they missed or do they think it’s okay to show since we’re living in modern Malaysia where people are getting more open minded?

Another movie was the Transporter 2. The scene for Lola, played by Kate Nauta. Well….if you missed “seeing” her then I don’t know la. It was so obvious that she was…errmm…semi exposing herself throughout the entire movie. Same goes for Unleashed starring Jet Li. They showed the violent fight scenes and the sex scene between the boss and a prostitute. Not censored at all. ?Whaa?

There are many other recent movies out there that are uncensored. This time they show the full kissing scene, unlike the old jump-to-the-next-scene-without-you-knowing-what-happened kinda thing. And the word f*ck or bi*ch can be heard clearly.

Thing is, what’s going on with the censorship board? Sleeping? Or just trying to be open minded. I don’t know…you tell me.

I really don’t mind about not having censorships. I’m an adult and I know what’s good and what’s bad. But parents should be more responsible when bringing their kids to the movies. During the movie Unleashed, I saw a kid with his parents in the cinema hall. This is not the right movie for that kid, especially with all the violence and sex scenes. When they show 18SX, they really mean 18 and above only. So parents, try not to bring your kids to any 18SX movies.

GEM in Ampang

No…it’s not the stone. But this GEM stands for Great Eastern Mall, in Jalan Ampang. I was there last night to pick up Gina from work as well as for my buka puasa. I head towards KL right after work from Phileo Damansara at about 5:15pm. And I arrived at GEM at 6:40pm. Yes…the jam was that bad. With no jams, it would only take about 20 minutes to get there.

Anyway, Gina finishes her work at around 8pm, so I have plenty time to kill. Besides, I have to find a place to buka puasa. So I went around the mall to look for a nice cozy restaurant or deli. Not only I want to buka puasa, but I also want to surf the net via WiFi network. I know that GEM has an Airzed WiFi network. And I recently registered myself with that network for their RM39.90 3 month unlimited access. Oh boy it was worth it.

Great Eastern Mall in Raya mood deco.

I choose to buka puasa at Delifrance, coz of the coziness and good ambiance, especially for my surfing needs. I can’t decide on what to eat at first. Sandwich? Pasta? Roast Chicken? Quiche? Hmmm…. finally, spaghetti carbonara was my choice.

While waiting for the break-fast time, I took the opportunity to log on to the Airzed network. It took less then a minute to find the network and connect to it. And man it’s fast. So with this fast connection, I took the advange to download some MP3 files from Limewire. One full song took only 6 minutes with the speed of 90Kb/s. Not bad….worth my money for this.

Then it’s time to break-fast. And before I get to chew on my food, one familiar face turned up at the deli. The guy was staring at me as if he was trying to recall of where he had seen me. Then I looked at him and I knew immediately who he was. It was Jamie Azman. Assistant head prefect from SMSJ, my old school mate. My goodness. I think the last time I saw him was during school days. We exchange namecards and phone numbers. And we also trying to recall our old friends from school days, and asking him whether he keep in touch with any of them.

And not 5 minutes while talking to Jamie, to our surprise, came another one of our old school mate. It was Imran Ariffin. I said “What’s this? Reunion of SMSJ-ans or what?” Imran is working in Great Eastern itself, and been there for 7 years already. Jamie is currently attached to AMEX center in The Weld. So if or when I want an AMEX card, I’ll just go to him. ;-)
So Imran joined me for buka puasa, but Jamie was with his fiancee so basically, not gonna disturb them. Imran and I just catching up each other with stories of our lives, about school, friends and finding old friends. I don’t know if Ron know any of them, but I’m sure he knows Jamie. But the best thing is, who can forget the unta in the school, Syed Alwee. Both of them remembers him well, and asked how he’s doing. I just said he’s fine. Spent time in UK doing god knows what for at least 6 years before coming back home. I wonder what he’s up to nowadays. Hmm…

Then we parted after breaking fast. And I was still waiting for Gina to finish work. I headed up to Starbucks for a nice Mocha Frappa. Finally it’s 8pm. Gina came down and we went off the Berjaya Time Square to catch the movie, Transporter 2. Now that story will be in another blog. :-P
